IGNIS Innovation’s new Automated Panel Tuning System (APTS) corrects initial uniformity (Mura) problems in OLED displays stemming from manufacturing, material properties and device physics. Using proprietary and
patented Demura algorithms, the IGNIS APTS works for all types of OLED display modules regardless of their size, pixel circuit, or backplane. All applications (Computer/IT, Mobile, TV, Wearable, etc.) can take advantage of this technology. In addition to display module assemblies, the solution can be used on fully assembled devices and has been verified across multiple handsets from major vendors. This system is applicable for both glass (rigid) and plastic (flexible) substrates.

The IGNIS APTS is comprised of an optical instrument which images the Device Under Test (DUT); Demura algorithms which analyze the images and create correction factors for each DUT on a per pixel basis; and mechanical stages which support the DUT during the measurement phase. Third party material handling integration is supported via an on-board PLC. Fixed stages are standard with the system, and motorized stages are available as an option.

The correction factors may be viewed on a PC using the Microsoft® Windows® 10 operating system with the MaxLife® Monitor software installed. In development is the ability to flash the correction factors into a compatible Display Driver Integrated Circuit (DDIC).

Typical takt time is under a minute for a 2880 x 1440 resolution panel.

According to IGNIS CEO, Peter Monsberger, “OLED display manufacturers using our Automated Panel Tuning System for inspection and demura correction, will be able to produce displays with an entirely uniform appearance, improve product quality and increase production yield”.
