Frost & Sullivan Recognizes IGNIS for Pioneering AMOLED Display Technology

Jun 12 2012

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – 12 June, 2012 – Based on its recent analysis of the AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) display market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes IGNIS Innovation with the 2012 Global Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award for AdMo™, it’s technology that offers superior quality and low cost of production for AMOLED displays. With this technology, AMOLED display companies can compete against the LCD displays in terms of higher volume and superior display quality. The two major parts of an AMOLED display — the backplane, a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) circuit forming the active matrix on the display, and the front plane, the OLED structure in the display — require two entirely different manufacturing processes and equipment. Further, the backplane manufacturing is highly capital-intensive and technically challenging. As a result, large AMOLED display panels cost twice as much as competing technologies, such as LCDs and plasma display panels. Further, the materials available to manufacture OLEDs, as well as the backplanes, are not yet uniform and stable, which poses a challenge for the AMOLED in reaching economies of scale. Thus, companies focusing on delivering technologies that aim to offer higher value to display manufacturers are in a strong position to achieve a dominant share of the global AMOLED display market. “IGNIS Innovation stands…

IGNIS Announces Planned Production of 3.5 inch AMOLED Displays

Jun 08 2012

Waterloo, Ontario – June 8, 2012 – IGNIS today announced its plan to start production of 3.5” AMOLED displays built with IGNIS’ patented Intelligent Pixel™ technology, which makes the display stable and uniform for long life. The display is ideal for mobile phones and other portable applications that require the bright image, rich color, ultra-high contrast, and lower power of an AMOLED display. Given today’s tight supply and high price of LTPS-based AMOLED displays, many manufacturers of mobile phones and other portable devices are not able to find continuous AMOLED supplies to differentiate their products from the fierce competition in the consumer electronics market. “By offering a high quality 3.5- inch display as our first product, IGNIS opens the door and serves as another reliable and quality source of AMOLED displays which are lower cost with competitive performance using traditional LCD backplanes,” says Paul Arsenault, President & CEO, “IGNIS plans to produce other mobile sized AMOLED displays with higher resolutions and in much greater volumes to satisfy the increasing customer demand.” Currently product samples have been sent to potential customers for evaluation and design-in. Mass production will begin in the second half of 2012 as customer orders grow. Taiwan’s RiTdisplay Corporation is working with IGNIS as the OLED deposition manufacturing partner for the product. IGNIS reveals slim 20″ AMOLED at SID Display Week

Jun 06 2012

Waterloo, Ontario – June 6, 2012 – IGNIS has revealed a 20 inch AMOLED display running at 240 Hz and only 3mm thick. Given today’s challenges in producing larger AMOLED displays which are uniform and stable, IGNIS has revealed a proven technology which works with different backplane technologies including traditional LCD backplanes and metal oxide backplanes. “Our objective was to find a solution to enable affordable high quality AMOLED displays with lower risk, lower cost, and faster time to market”, says Dr. Reza Chaji, CTO. “Our compensation technology enables all TFT backplane technologies (a-Si, poly-Si, and oxide) to take advantage of the AMOLED market, thus opening up the supply channel.” The technology can be used to manufacture any panel size with resolution up to 2k x 4k and up to 240Hz. The current panel was fabricated with a traditional amorphous silicon LCD TFT fab, and OLED deposition was completed by RiTdisplay Corporation of Taiwan.
